AEW President Tony Khan announced earlier this week that a new star would be joining AEW full-time as AEW has agreed to terms with “one of the world’s best wrestlers” who is “known + respected by virtually every AEW fan.”
The possible names
This person would be at Full Gear to sign their contract, but no further hints were given. Speculation has run wild since then, with names like Dolph Ziggler, Mustafa Ali, Shelton Benjamin, and others possibly joining the promotion. The only problem with that is they all have 90-day non-competes stemming from their WWE releases.
Mercedes Mone has also been a name rumored due to many expecting her to sign with AEW before she got injured earlier this year.
Big reveal
Andrew Zarian reported today on the Mat Men Podcast that he was told Will Ospreay would be revealed as the signing. This would be a big get for AEW as Ospreay has interest from WWE.
“I was told Will Ospreay,” Zarian stated.” That is a big deal. Huge deal because WWE was actively pursuing him. Will make the fans happy, wrestler of the year.”
