GUNTHER’s reign as the WWE Intercontinental Champion had a real threat of ending on Monday night when he defended the title against Jey Uso in the main event of Raw.
The match
It looked like Jey was going to win the match after connecting with a spear and a top rope splash. However, Jimmy Uso came out to ring the bell to cause the referee to stop counting.
Jey took out Jimmy with an outside dive before Gunther countered another splash before rolling him up for the win. Jimmy laid out his brother after the match.
Title change
WrestleVotes reported there were several people in WWE who believed there was going to be a title change, as it was the direction on various show run sheets just hours before the show went live.
“Hearing an interesting story, we hope to follow up on with more tomorrow… source states there were multiple people within the company under the impression Jey Uso was winning the IC title tonight on RAW. I’m told that as late as 6 pm, this was the direction on various show rundowns within the creative and digital departments.”
It’s possible they did this to weed out leakers or plans simply changed.
