REPORT: The Rock tried to restructure DC Universe to center around Black Adam and Superman

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s passion project happened in 2022 when he was able to star in the leading role of “Black Adam.” It was his first role in the DC Universe

The Wrap has an interesting story about how the former WWE star tried to restructure DCU, with it being centered around him and Henry Cavill’s Superman.

The report noted that Johnson vetoed a planned post-credits scene in “Black Adam” that would’ve seen Shazam (played by Zachary Levi) recruited by Aldis Hodge’s Hawkman, and other heroes into the Justice Society of America.

New DC Studios co-chief and “Shazam” producer Peter Safran gave a version of the post-credits sequence that Johnson vetoed, and it is now as a mid-credits cookie in “Fury of the Gods.” Johnson was said to have nixed the use of “Black Adam” actors. The scene now plays out with Jennifer Holland and Steve Agee from “Suicide Squad” and “Peacemaker.”

It’s been confirmed that Henry Cavill will not return as Superman in DCU after Safran and James Gunn were named studio co-heads.

“Black Adam” grossed $393 million worldwide. Last December, Johnson confirmed that Black Adam would not be featured going forward, at least in “the first chapter” under Safran and Gunn.
