Steamboat declined to be part of Ric Flair’s last match at Starrcast V in July. Instead, Flair teamed with son-in-law Andrade against Jeff Jarrett and Lethal.

Steamboat had previously retired in 1994 due to a back injury before coming back at WrestleMania 25 in 2009, where he teamed with Roddy Piper and Jimmy Snuka in a three-on-one handicap elimination match against Chris Jericho. A singles match later that month was booked with Steamboat against Jericho at the Backlash pay-per-view. His performances were praised in both of those matches.

Steamboat last wrestled in 2010 in a tag team match with his son, Richie Steamboat, against The Dudebusters’ Caylen Croft and Trent Barreta at an independent show, although his last singles match was against Drew McIntyre in 2009 at a WWE house show.
