Road Dogg on IYO SKY: I Don’t Know if She’s Acting Drunk, I Don’t Know Her Motivation for Walking Like That on Her Entrance, but Me and My Wife Love It

The latest episode of Road Dogg’s “Oh You Didn’t Know” podcast is up now at AdFreeShows.com. Road Dogg covers Money In The Bank 2018 along with his thoughts on some current wrestling news items.

Road Dogg’s thoughts on the new WWE Championship belts:

“Hunter has always been a traditionalist from his training with Kowalski to his mentoring by Flair. Everything he’s done has been with respect to tradition in this industry. So I think these are, but you can’t just copy another title that was good. You don’t just go like, ‘Oh, people love that one.’ No. You have to be the innovator and now I think we’ve seen, now speaking very currently, is the women’s titles also have done the same thing, so you’re going to have a world champion and a WWE Champion or a Universal Champion and a World Champion. I’m not sure where the names exactly lay now and is Roman Reigns still undisputed? I think things like that are going to come out and are really intriguing to me, not as an inside the circle guy, but as a viewer, as a fan, which I’ve tried to do a lot this stint in this specific job, just to watch so I can give you nuances of that on a live event. It’s all intriguing to me. I love the new titles. They’re huge, they’re beautiful, but yet they’re big and plain, too, and I think that’s tradition. Look, we all went the way of the Big Eagle and the Big Spinner and the big this and the big that. I think these go back to what a championship title looks like.”

Road Dogg talking about the upcoming Women’s Money in the Bank Ladder Match:

“You know, who my favorite is, is IYO SKY. There’s something about IYO SKY and my wife even feels it too. Like on her entrance, there’s something so abstract and just, I don’t know if she’s acting drunk, or if she’s acting I don’t care, or, I don’t know her motivation for walking like that on her entrance, but me and my wife love it. I love IYO SKY. She is one of my faves because she’s daring as the day is long and she’s great in the ring. She’s got great timing. I love her. I love Asuka. I think Asuka is one of the greatest women’s wrestlers of our time. I firmly believe that and I don’t think there’s many that I would even compare to her as far as the total package. She can’t speak good English, but her energy and her facials, she emotes a language that it’s universal when she screams something at you. When she acts, I get it. To me, her wrestling, her in the ring stuff, is second to none. She’s the one that does it the most fluidly if you ask me.”

On the criticism WWE takes for their 50/50 booking style:

“I know I did it when I was a writer and it serves a purpose though it’s hated. There’s very few people that can tell me that, that I’ll listen to. Very few of them have been in the shoes of writing 52 weeks a year and 12 PLEs in between those. So very few people have had that honor/burden, so I’ll only listen to some of y’all tell me that’s not hard and 50/50 is not necessary. I wouldn’t say it’s necessary, but I would say if you want to keep every character in a position to where they’re promotable, and look, it also goes into my bigger philosophy and this is going to break the internet of, wins and losses don’t matter. It’s about episodic television and that’s how I look at it now. You can look at it any other way you want to, but from an episodic television show, which is where we all know that’s where the money comes from now, that’s what rules the day. You got to keep the characters like Becky Lynch doing well, but you also got to use a character like Becky Lynch every now and then to make a newcomer look well. There might be an instance where I need Becky’s, and exactly what she is, a star. I need her star power to give said NXT upcoming star the carrot and the clout that he or she deserves when coming in. ‘Oh my God. They beat Becky Lynch.’ Right, wrong, or indifferent, it’s a philosophy and it’s a philosophical disagreement if you agree or disagree.”
