CM Punk returned to WWE following the main event of Saturday’s Survivor Series premium live event. After Team Cody beat Judgment Day in the Men’s WarGames Match, Punk walked out to a loud reaction.
The fallout
As previously reported, Seth Rollins, who has been vocal in the past about not wanting Punk back in WWE due to seemingly bad history, had to be restrained by security as Punk was out by the stage area.
During the post-show press conference, Triple H said that this was put together very late. Punk and Triple H reportedly had a long talk for an hour ahead of his return.
Backstage reaction
Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select reported that producers, referees, staff, talent, and even head writers on the creative team were not told about Punk’s return. Punk signed a multi-year deal.
The report noted, “As it pertains to the main event talent being upset, there are numerous talent on the roster in general upset, just as there are some excited, curious and about every emotion. Talent was pulled aside before the WarGames match and told that CM Punk would be returning at the conclusion of the show.”
One talent noted they were legitimately upset by the return of Punk.
