Several WWE Talent Hoping That Puerto Rico Becomes Permanent Home for Backlash

WWE booked Saturday’s Backlash premium live event as well as the go-home edition of SmackDown from the Coliseo de Puerto Rico José Miguel Agrelot in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

It was a highly praised PLE due to the booking decisions, in-ring action, and crowd reactions. Both events were also sold out. Cody Rhodes beating Brock Lesnar headlined the show.

WWE brought in Bad Bunny to work a street fight with Damian Priest. This was the second PLE/PPV in WWE history to be held in Puerto Rico and the first since 2005 with New Year’s Resolution.

The company was paid to hold the events in Puerto Rico. Although it was a big success, fans may be waiting awhile to see another show in the country as until WWE gets paid by the tourism board to run another PLE in Puerto Rico, they will likely just run house shows like they’ve been doing for years.

Pwinsider Elite reports that the talk backstage at Backlash among wrestlers was that they hope the company would make San Juan, Puerto Rico, the permanent home for the PLE, as the feeling was the crowd reactions for both SmackDown and Backlash were at the levels of WrestleMania. They also feel it made the post-WrestleMania PLE the most important event it had been in years.
