A new WWE Intercontinental Champion was almost crowned tonight during Friday Night SmackDown.
Late in the match, Gunther tapped while he was put in the cloverleaf by Sheamus but referee Jessika Carr claimed that Gunther was trying to reach out to the bottom rope. Fans booed as the rest of Imperiu ran out to ringside but the rest of the Brawling Brutes ran them off.
Gunther recovered but Sheamus hit the Brogue Kick as Gunther used a Shelayleigh that was handed to him by Ludwig Kaiser. That was enough for him to retain the title. It looks like they may need a rubber match to settle this feud once and for all.
