Ahead of tonight’s WWE Fastlane PLE, Shinsuke Nakamura sat down to talk with Steve Fall in a WrestlingNews.co exclusive interview. Nakamura will challenge Seth Rollins for the WWE Championship in a Last Man Standing Match. The show kicks off on Peackcok at 8 pm Eastern. Click above to watch the entire interview.
Nakamura on meeting children who look up to him during a meet and greet:
“I like this because it’s very rare to meet everyone in the arena. Sometimes we have meet and greets like this at house shows and overseas…I’m having fun with talking with fans and talking with family. Sometimes I can get small feedback.
On his chemistry with Seth Rollins:
“I think I need to change the strategy to beat him. Also I need to prove that I’m better than him. I’m not enough to beat Seth Rollins so I need to show why I’m here, why I’m fighting. I need to express everything. I have a lot of feeling, frustration, madness. I’m gonna put all my emotion [in the match at Fastlane].
Nakamura was asked if Fastlane is his WrestleMania:
“I’m gonna put everything into the match. Of course. I’m gonna put everything, what I can do [tonight]. Not kind of, it’s one of the biggest matches of my career. I forgot about the past, I need to focus now.”
On whose idea it was to let him speak Japanese on WWE Raw:
“I don’t know whose idea it is. Definitely, I can put real emotion into speaking Japanese. I’m also enjoying to talk like that. Sometimes I pitch the idea of my attire and bringing the samurai sword and using karate as a weapon. I’m definitely enjoying what I’m doing right now. Being evil is kind of one of the real things from myself. It’s coming from real things. I’m not acting…”
On if he prefers being good or evil:
“I can change. I’m just showing the side, like changing the dial like an old school television.”
On his entrance music preference:
“I like the original one without lyrics…WWE’s music, at that time we had a meeting about the music. They asked me what kind of music I wanna use. I told them my story and preference and so we contact them back and forth…That music is gonna fit each [version] of me.
The strangest place he’s ever wrestled in:
“I have over 20 years experience…in Los Angeles around 2005-2006, I had a match against Karl Anderson. The audience was one Mexican family. Just 5 people.”
On Damian Priest possibly cashing in at WWE Fastlane:
“I need to focus only on Seth Rollins because he’s not easy. I didn’t beat him yet. First of all, I need to focus on Seth Rollins. Of course, I’m not stupid, always Damian is going to try to find the opportunity, the timing. I’m a challenger for the championship. Seth is more worried about that. He needs to defend against Shinsuke and needs to care about Damian.”
On a fantasy match-up he wishes he had in WWE:
“Everybody’s changed their character a little bit. Cody. I didn’t have any singles matches against The Usos. Maybe Jey Uso, Jimmy, and Solo…I don’t have singles match with Sheamus, Drew McIntyre. I still have a lot left.”
