WWE has made several changes to the plans for Ronda Rousey at WrestleMania 39 over the last two months.
WrestlingNews.co exclusively reported that plans for a match between Rousey and Becky Lynch had been scrapped because WWE had something else in mind for the former UFC star. As late as December 30, WWE had plans to have Rousey defend the SmackDown Women’s Title against Rhea Ripley at Mania.
That same day during SmackDown, Charlotte Flair returned to beat Rousey for the title. Flair has since confirmed that she found out she was winning the title when she arrived at the arena that night for the show.
Now, Flair will defend her title against Ripley. Rousey has since gone on hiatus from WWE TV.
In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that Rousey and Shayna Baszler are currently scheduled to challenge IYO Sky and Dakota Kair for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles.
This is among the “locked in matches at this point” for Mania. It’s still unclear exactly when Rousey will return to television.
