St. Petersburg Spent Big Money to Host WWE Royal Rumble 2024

WWE has already announced that next year’s Royal Rumble PLE will take at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida on January 27.

With the show still several months away, no matches have been announced, but as usual, it’s one of the biggest events of the year for the company as it kicks start WrestleMania season and starts the build to the show.

In recent years, WWE has had cities bid on some of its bigger events just like they do with WrestleMania. They’ve done this in the past with SummerSlam, Money in the Bank, and Royal Rumble.

While speaking with the Catalyst, Jason Latimer, public relations director for Visit St. Pete-Clearwater, revealed they spent $500,000 of its tourist development tax funding in its successful bid to secure the event.

The economic impact of the event is unknown, but the expectation is over 40,000 fans will be in attendance.

“The exposure and marketing benefits, and the visitation we’re going to get from this, are astronomical,” said Brian Lowack, CEO of VSPC. “We can take those monies that we collect from those visitors in their overnight stays and reinvest them in capital projects here, which will increase visitation.”

They plan to have a lot of activities the week before the event and throughout.
