It looks like WWE is getting closer to locking down another international premium live event this year.
This month, WWE went g to Puerto Rico for the Backlash PLE and will wrap up the month with Night of Champions in Saudi Arabia on May 27th. The company has already confirmed they will hold Money in the Bank in London in July at the O2 Arena.
Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select reported earlier this week that WWE had spoken with reps in Australia to gauge interest in a potential PLE event.
In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that this idea has become more serious.
Meltzer wrote, “The idea of doing a major show in Perth, Western Australia, with the local tourism group co-promoting it has gotten more serious as WWE officials went to Perth to discuss such a show and it would be a PPV event.”
If WWE makes a deal to hold the PLE there, it would only be the second premium live event in company history to take place in Australia, as the first, Super Show-Down, took place on October 6, 2018, at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in Melbourne, Australia.
The event drew 70,309 people and aired on the WWE Network in the early morning hours in the United States. It was headlined by Triple H defeating The Undertaker.
