The Identity of the Masked Man on AEW Dynamite Is Not Who You Might Think It Is

Last night’s episode of AEW Dynamite ended with a big cliffhanger leaving fans wondering who was under the mask during the attack on Jay White.

Earlier in the show, White and MJF had a confrontation in the ring that seemed to be the setup for a World Title match either at the Title Tuesday episode of Dynamite or at Full Gear in November. Many fans on social media speculated that this could be MJF but there seemed to be a ton of fans speculating that this was actually Adam Cole and that Cole’s ankle injury is not legitimate.

According to people who were backstage, Cole’s injury is real and he was seen on crutches. Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez confirmed on Wrestling Observer Radio that it is a real injury and he won’t be cleared to wrestle for a while because he needs surgery, as was stated during Dynamite.

Another name that people have speculated on is Edge. It was clearly not Edge in the suit and mask last night because of the body type but oftentimes in wrestling, the big reveal is a different person and the person in the mask last night could have been a placeholder.

For what it’s worth, and as noted earlier on the site earlier, Edge’s WWE deal will expire before the pay-per-view on Sunday night and he has been removed from WWE’s internal roster. Furthermore, Edge and AEW had talks in 2019 before WWE made a better offer. If Edge does show up, there’s an opening for him to get involved in the Christian Cage vs. Darby Allin match since both Luchasaurus and Nick Wayne are banned from ringside. It will be an interesting show this Sunday. Here is the updated card:
