Another week has gone by without confirmation whether The Rock is locked in to wrestle Roman Reigns at WWE’s biggest event of the year, WrestleMania 40.
The build
The match was discussed for WrestleMania 38 in 2022 before it was decided the following year at WrestleMania 39 in LA would be better. That match was delayed because they couldn’t come up with the right storyline.
The Rock was asked about the match while making the media rounds this week, including an appearance on ESPN’s First Take. The former WWE Champion noted he thinks there’s a chance it happens, and if it does, it would be the biggest WrestleMania of all time. It was later reported the match was still in play.
Latest update
In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that Rock has yet to officially sign a deal to wrestle for the company, but the key word said about that is “Yet.”
As it stands now, he’s willing to do it and said he wants to do the match and is strong on doing it at Mania. However, it’s not locked in yet.
Meltzer wrote, “One person in the company noted that Johnson was “headstrong” about wrestling Reigns at WrestleMania.”
