Brock Lesnar was among the names that entered this year’s 30-Man Royal Rumble match, where he had a showdown with Gunther and briefly mixed it up with Bobby Lashley before Lashley eliminated him. After being eliminated, he destroyed the ringside area, lifted the ring steps, and even tossed a referee over the barricade.
Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select reported today that Lesnar received some heat for a spot in the bout.
Per the report, “some of the aftermath wasn’t planned and caught a few by surprise.” It was said that a couple of people who were ringside for the bout weren’t prepared for the stairs spot and didn’t know it was coming. When Lesnar tossed part of the announce table, that was unplanned.
One source said, “we knew a freak out was planned, and it’s Brock, so expect anything and everything.”
The spot that got Lesnar “a bit of heat was an unplanned situation was when referee Eddie Orengo was thrown over the barricade.”
Although it initially looked like the referee may have suffered a foot injury, it’s unclear whether he’s actually hurt. The referee sold until he got backstage and missed a notable spot toward the end of the bout.
One source did say, “heat is a relative term for Brock Lesnar. He’s not going to get in trouble. He’s certainly not going to be fired like Cryme Tyme was. It’s a new regime, new rules, and I’m not sure anyone involved was mad or not, but some people backstage were.”
