The WWE Royal Rumble pay-per-view is always filled with surprises and sometimes wrestlers target that show for a return from injury.
Rey Mysterio has been off WWE TV since November with a torn meniscus but he is hoping to be back in action later this month. Mysterio told the Bakers Bantering podcast that he hopes to be back at the pay-per-view or shortly after.
Mysterio said he’s been doing physical therapy and added, “I just had knee surgery, thanks to Santos Escobar — and his time will come eventually. And I do hope that I can return for the Rumble, if not shortly after that. But I am working very hard to make my return as soon as possible.”
Mysterio recently stated on Konnan’s podcast that the knee that was injured recently is not the same knee that has given him the most problems over the years and the torn meniscus was just the result of wear and tear over time and it was time to get it addressed.
In storyline, the knee injury was blamed on an attack by Santos Escobar after Escobar turned on Mysterio and essentially disbanded the LWO in the process. Prior to the attack, Mysterio dropped the United States Championship to Logan Paul. If Mysterio returns this month, that could be the beginning of a set up for a potential match-up with Escobar for WrestleMania.
