WWE had to change its original plans for Ronda Rousey and Shayna Baszler at WrestleMania 39 after Rousey was sidelined with an arm injury. Now they’ve had to make other changes.
Rousey and Baszler were slated to win the Women’s Tag Team Titles at the show. Instead, they worked the four-way tag team match at WrestleMania, with Rousey being protected and limited in the match. After a few weeks off television, Rousey returned on Monday’s Raw.
Liv Morgan is on the sidelines with an undisclosed injury that forced her to pull out of a scheduled match on Raw this week as Morgan was injured during the Women’s Tag Team Title match alongside Raquel Rodriguez against Damage CTRL last week on SmackDown.
WWE announced on Raw that the Women’s Tag Team Championship Match between Morgan and Rodriguez against Sonya Deville and Chelsea Green was postponed, with Rodriguez instead going over Green in a singles match before Rousey and Baszler attacked her after it. It’s believed Morgan’s injury isn’t serious.
In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that the situation with the Tag Team Titles depends upon the severity of Morgan’s injury as Rousey and Bazler winning them at Mania and eventual run with them “were only step one in a longer-term Rousey storyline.”
Meltzer wrote, “The timing of this is an issue because Rousey is planning on taking time off at a certain time frame which was prior to WrestleMania, and the story was to end well before that.”
WWE would have to speed up the storyline should Rousey not extend how long she stays due to the original plan being to establish them as a team while being the champions for a while and then” do the actual storyline that this was to build to.”
