WWE house shows have changed a lot in recent years as the focus and money draw for the company is no longer on touring but rather media rights deals for television with Raw, SmackDown, and NXT.
Money
WWE also gets paid big bucks by NBCU for the streaming rights to the WWE Network in the United States through Peacock.
Decades ago, wrestling drew its big money on live event gates and would use television to sell tickets to shows. Nowadays, it’s used for wrestlers to get reps in the ring, work with upcoming opponents, and try out new things.
Event
WWE held an NXT live event on Saturday night from Venice, FL, where in the main event, Shotzi & Gigi Dolin defeated NXT Women’s Champion Lyra Valkyria & Tatum Paxley. As a result of the win, Shotzi has earned the right to challenge Valkyria for the title this Tuesday on NXT television. An announcement is expected to be made shortly.
Shotzi has returned to NXT several times over the years from the main roster including to host the Halloween Havoc event last year. She is slated to wrestle Tiffany Stratton this coming Friday on SmackDown, where the winner will earn a spot in the Women’s Elimination Chamber match.
