Pat McAfee made a surprise appearance at WWE WrestleMania 39 to square off for a short match with The Miz on night one of the show from LA and went over. Even San Francisco 49ers’ George Kittle got involved.
It was a surprise not only to fans, but to his good friend Michael Cole and The Miz, who had no idea that he would be returning. WWE kept McAfee hidden throughout the day as he was on a tour bus.
McAfee’s WWE future has been up in the air after Wade Barrett stated in a recent interview that his role as the SmackDown color commentator, a previous role that McAfee had, was as permanent as one can be in WWE. The conflict is McAfee is a busy guy with his daily radio show, working on ESPN’s College Gameday program, and soon-to-be father.
Barrett had filled in for McAfee when the former NFL punter College Gameday with the idea that he would return after the football season was over. That hasn’t really happened, as McAfee previously returned for a one-off at the Royal Rumble.
In a post on Twitter, he shared some unseen footage of the appearance. He wrote:
“Good morning beautiful people. A few weeks ago.. I was offered the opportunity of a lifetime with the @WWE.. and NOBODY was allowed to know a thing about it. Here’s a full @EvanFoxy Flick of the Behind The Scenes from the day…”
