WWE changed the finish for a top match at Elimination Chamber

WWE booked a third match between Brock Lesnar and Bobby Lashley at the Elimination Chamber PLE last month that saw Lashley go over.

As previously reported, WWE discussed several opponents for Lesnar at WrestleMania Goes Hollywood, including Steve Austin, Gunther, Lashley, and Bray Wyatt. Lesnar nixed the idea of wrestling Wyatt while Austin declined to wrestle “The Beast,” and it’s still unclear why the Gunther match didn’t happen.

Heading into Elimination Chamber, Wyatt did a promo on SmackDown, noting that he was coming after the winner of Lashley vs. Lesnar at the PLE and told them to run. WWE has already confirmed Omos vs. Lesnar and is building to Wyatt vs. Lashley for WrestleMania.

While speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer added more to the situation with Lesnar at WrestleMania. He confirmed plans for Lesnar vs. Wyatt, but after that was off the table, WWE needed to change the finish of Lesnar vs. Lashley, leading to Lashley going over instead of Lesnar.

“Originally, what was going to happen was Brock beating Bobby Lashley at Elimination Chamber, and that was going to lead to Brock against Bray Wyatt at WrestleMania. That’s why Bray Wyatt did that interview (on SmackDown calling for the winner of Lashley vs. Lesnar at the PLE), but after they did that, they had to change the finish, and Brock had to…now…Bobby Lashley is in that spot.”
