WWE has no plans to turn the WrestleMania main event into a triple threat match

Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns defended his title against Sami Zayn at the Elimination Chamber premium live event on Saturday night from Montreal, Quebec, Canada, at the Bell Centre, which aired on Peacock.

As expected, The Usos got involved but Jey didn’t turn on Zayn. Instead, Zayn accidentally speared Jey before Jey could decide whether he was going to hit Zayn with a chair. Reigns went over with a spear before Reigns and Jimmy beat down Zayn after the match. Kevin Owens made the save for Zayn as expected to send the crowd home happy, but Owens didn’t stand tall in the ring with Zayn. Instead, he immediately walked to the back.

It was reported heading into the show that WWE was planning to do Zayn and Owens challenging The Usos for the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Titles at WrestleMania Goes Hollywood as WWE didn’t want to add Zayn to the Reigns vs. Cody Rhodes match at WrestleMania.

Coming out of the Elimination Chamber event, that is still the plan despite what some fans may want to see happen. As previously reported, Vince McMahon and Triple H don’t see Zayn as a main event star even though he has boosted TV ratings, attendance, and interest in recent weeks.

While speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer talked about the match.

“I know what the plan was as of, even a week ago, and it was Roman and Cody. It’s not Sami being thrown in. Could they do it? They could always change. I thought watching the Cody interview with Sami (on Monday’s WWE Raw), ‘Maybe you do make it a three-way,’” Meltzer stated.

Meltzer later added, “Look, I was told they weren’t going to do anything with the Sami thing, but you always go…it could always change.”
