WWE has pitched a match for Steve Austin against a SmackDown star

WWE has not given up on trying to get Stone Cold Steve Austin to wrestle at WrestleMania 39 in Los Angeles.

There are more details over at Fightful Select that we won’t post here but one noteworthy item in their news post states that LA Knight’s name has been pitched as his opponent. That rumor was making the rounds on social media this past weekend and WrestlingNews.co hinted at it on Twitter (see below). However, it was never confirmed to us by WWE.

There is no confirmation that the Austin vs. Knight match is happening but it’s interesting that Austin is in fantastic shape and he’s left the door open to wrestling again. As of late, Knight has been talking about making his own path to WrestleMania. As of this writing, an opponent has not been named for him. If Austin does not agree to return then there might be a spot open for Knight if Bray Wyatt is not able to wrestle on the PLE.

Austin was previously pitched Brock Lesnar as an opponent but the money offered was a “non-starter” and he never got back to WWE when he was pitched Roman Reigns.
