WWE introduced its wellness policy in the mid-2000s following the sudden death of Eddie Guerrero, who died aged 38 of heart failure.
Part of the policy is drug testing, as a wrestler who violates the policy will receive a 30-day suspension for their first violation and a 60-day suspension for their second violation. If they violate it for a third time, then it usually leads to the wrestler being let go.
Matt Riddle was written off of WWE TV following an attack by Solo Sikoa. WWE stated Riddle is not expected back for six weeks.
As previously reported, Riddle has entered rehab for his drug issues after failing two tests, although this claim has not been publicly confirmed by Riddle or WWE. Riddle is also facing allegations of abuse. He broke his silence on Wednesday through a statement he issued.
On the Wrestling Observer Board, one person noted that Riddle will be fired upon his next suspension from the company.
In response, Dave Meltzer wrote, “They’ve changed that rule. It’s because a couple of key people have had two suspensions and we’re in a wrestling war. Plus somebody with two could intentionally fail a test to get out of their contract.”
