During the Wednesday Night Wars, AEW Dynamite beat WWE NXT nearly every week in the ratings until WWE moved NXT to Tuesday night.
Over the last year, WWE has increased the number of main roster stars they send to NXT to help boost the television ratings and for more experienced talent to work with the young wrestlers.
This strategy, accredited to WWE CEO Nick Khan, has paid off in recent months by sending World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins and The Judgment Day to NXT.
As previously reported, there are some people who want to see NXT beat Dynamite in the ratings while also boosting ratings in hopes of getting a bigger payday for the media rights of the developmental brand.
While speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted WWE is looking to beat Dynamite in the 18-34 demographic rating. The critical demo that advertisers look for is the 18-49.
Meltzer: “That should do a very good number [bringing in Rey Mysterio and Judgment Day again this week].”
Bryan Alvarez: “It should do a really big number. Rey Mysterio is going to NXT.”
Meltzer: “The thing I keep hearing is their goal, which is to beat Dynamite in 18-34 some week. And, not this last week, but the week before, they were pretty close. So, we’ll see.”
