WWE made history with house show at Madison Square Garden featuring CM Punk’s in-ring return

WWE’s Holiday Tour house show began on Tuesday night with events at Madison Square Garden in New York City and in Baltimore, MD. The show at the iconic arena featured the Raw roster in action in addition to the in-ring return of CM Punk while the SmackDown crew worked the other show.

Punk’s return

Punk worked his first WWE match since the Royal Rumble in 2014, when he walked out of the company before being fired on his wedding day, and his first match since AEW All In when he beat Samoa Joe in the opening bout on the card a few months ago.

He wrestled Dominik Mysterio before they have a rematch at The Kia Forum in Inglewood, California, on Saturday, December 30. Punk went over in the contest before cutting a promo about how his story is just starting at WrestleMania 40.

History

The show was headlined by World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins, who paid tribute to the late Bray Wyatt and Brodie Le after his match.

Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select reported that WWE broke a big record at this show as the sold-out event set the new record for the highest-grossing domestic non-televised live event in the history of the entire company.
