WWE nixed a segment during NXT after the news of Jay Briscoe’s passing

WWE joined fans and wrestlers in remembering the late, great Jay Briscoe following the news that he passed away in a car accident on Tuesday night at 38 years old.

As previously reported by Shore News Beacon, the crash happened at 16523 Laurel Rd, minutes from Jay’s home. Police initially stated that there were “Multiple calls reporting as many as 4 patients trapped.” The first responder confirmed at 5:18 pm local time there was an “entrapment and fire” at the scene and “Command advising 1 critical pediatric, 2nd serious patient. Evaluating two others.” The 5:41 pm update noted, “EMS advising 2 adult fatalities and 2 critical patients being transported at this time.”

ABC affiliate WMDT later reported that the collision left two dead, per Delaware State Police.

WWE paid tribute to Jay on the NXT broadcast by having the announcers make an announcement of Jay’s passing. Triple H also paid tribute to Jay, who was beloved by fans and wrestlers for his contributions to the wrestling business.

A planned “funeral” segment was reportedly pulled from the show, according to John Pollock of POST Wrestling tweeted:

“New Day was scheduled to host a funeral segment on NXT on Tuesday night – this segment was changed after the news of Jay Briscoe’s passing, per sources.”
