LA Knight vs. The Miz at the WWE Payback 2023 premium live event from the PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh. PA. Before the match, John Cena, who was the special guest referee, did a promo segment with Cena where they went back and forth. They reflected on their history, Miz tried to get Cena to not be the referee, but Cena had a referee shirt and the match was on.
Miz got the better of LA Knight in the early going. LA fired back with a powerslam then sent him to the floor where he threw him around. Miz sent him over the barricade, but LA Knight fired back with a leaping clothesline. LA got in the face of Cena, allowing Miz to attack him from behind. Kight reversed a move and hit a powerslam. Miz missed the skull crushing finale and Knight missed the boot. Miz with a DDT and then a second for 2. Knight did some quick pin attempts. Miz tried to use the rop for leverage while doing a pin attempt, something Cena stopped him from doing. Knight almost hit Cena, allowing Miz to hit the skull crushing finale for a near fall. Knight planted Miz then hit an elbow drop and blunt force trauma for the win.
Winner: LA Knight
Post-match, Cena shook hands with Knight then endorsed him by raising Knight’s hand.
