WWE schedules two big events including King and Queen of the Ring for May

It looks like May will be a busy month for WWE as the company plans to hold two premium live events that month.

Brandon Thurston of Wrestlenomics reports that WWE is planning to do Backlash on Saturday, May 6 as well as King and Queen of the Ring on Saturday, May 27.

It’s interesting to note that the May 27 date is on Memorial Day weekend, which traditionally hosts AEW’s biggest event of the year, Double or Nothing, in Las Vegas. The promotion has held the show on a Sunday for the past two years.

The report stated that this year’s Backlash will not include the “WrestleMania Backlash” title that it had the past two years.

In December, WWE filed for the “King and Queen of the Ring” trademark. WWE held King of the Ring as a standalone pay-per-view from 1993 to 2002 before occasionally using it on TV. The most recent King of the Ring winner was Xavier Woods in 2021 while Zelina Vega was the winner of the Queen’s Crown tournament final that same year.

Here is the updated WWE PLE schedule for this year:

Saturday, April 1 and Sunday, April 2nd: WrestleMania 39 – SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles CA

Saturday, May 6, 2023: Backlash – location TBA

Saturday, May 27, 2023: King and queen of the Ring – location TBA

Saturday, July 1, 2023: Money in the Bank – The O2 Arena in London, England

Saturday, August 5, 2023: WWE SummerSlam – Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan
