WWE Star Gets a Slight Name Change

For various reasons, WWE will sometimes change the ring names of wrestlers whether that be because something sounds better, trademark related such as WALTER switching to GUNTHER, or Vince McMahon likes another name more on a random wim.

In the past, McMahon insisted that former TNA star Petey Williams drop Petey and be called “Pete.” For Robert Roode, he has undergone a slight name change at a time where he hasn’t been used on television because of injury.

Roode signed with WWE in 2016, where he found a lot of success, including holding the NXT Title before going to the main roster, where he became a United States Champion, Raw Tag Team Champion, and SmackDown Tag Team Champion.

Roode hasn’t wrestled since last June due to a neck injury he had been dealing with, leading to him having his C5 and C6 vertebrae fused. Earlier this year, Roode suffered another setback in his recovery as he also had to get his C4 and C5 fused.

Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select reported that Robert Roode went from being listed as “Robert” to “Bobby.” It’s unclear why the change was made.

Roode produced Akira Tozawa vs. JD McDonagh on Main Event this past Monday before producing Sami Zayn vs. Damian Priest on Raw.
