WWE Star Made History With NXT Battleground Victory

WWE crowned a new Women’s Champion on Sunday night at the Battleground event as Tiffany Stratton defeated Lyra Valkyria for the title in the tournament finals to decide the new title holder.

This marked Stratton’s first championship in WWE. The company did a storyline where Valkyria entered the bout with a knee injury thanks to a kendo stick attack by Cora Jade on NXT last Tuesday night.

The finish saw Stratton hit her Prettiest Moonsault Ever and pinned Valkyria. The title had been vacated by an injured Indi Hartwell earlier this month as she was called up to the main roster as part of this year’s Draft and put on Raw.

To get to this point, Stratton defeated Gigi Dolin in the first round and Roxanne Perez in the semifinals while Valkyria defeated Kiana James and Jade.

Queens of Wrestling noted on Twitter that Stratton became the 100th woman in the history of WWE to win a WWE Championship.
