Don’t expect any changes to the WWE SmackDown commentary team in the near future.
Wade Barrett told the Daily Star that he is sticking around as a commentator on Friday Night SmackDown, which means that Pat McAfee will not be back anytime soon. McAfee is also a part-time WWE star who wrestles rare occasions.
Barrett joined the SmackDown announce team last October after Pat McAfee left to cover college football for ESPN. At the time, WWE stated that McAfee would be back after the season was over but McAfee, who has a baby on the way, has decided not to return right now and he said that his return might depend on who buys WWE. McAfee did commentary at the Royal Rumble PLE but has not resumed his duties at SmackDown.
“Historically things have always been switched around and teams have been moved from here to there, and I’m not saying I’m going to be in the SmackDown hot seat for the next ten years or anything like that,” Barrett said. “But in terms of the foreseeable, it’s going to be me and Cole going forward.”
Barrett added that McAfee has a lot on his plate right now. McAfee took to Twitter tonight to say that he’s not done with wrestling.
McAfee tweeted:
“A lot of wrestling chatter about me right now..
I think about wrestling everyday..that dream isn’t done.
My business is currently rather active and exigent…+ baby on the way…timing is everything
I still have MASSIVE plans for my journey to the WWE HOF someday.
Believe that.”
