The WWE NXT North American Title is the secondary championship for the men in the developmental brand, similar to the Intercontinental and United States Championships on the main roster.
The title was introduced a few years ago. Wes Lee had been the champion going into Tuesday’s episode of NXT before he dropped it to Dominik Mysterio in the main event thanks to outside interference by Judgment Day as Rhea Ripley hit Lee with her Women’s Title, allowing Mysterio to win. Full NXT results can be found here.
Wrestling Stats & Info noted on Twitter that if Lee had stayed champion for another week, he would’ve held it for more combined days than anyone else. Carmelo Hayes currently holds the record. Lee holds the longest reign in the title’s history at 269 days.
“Former #WWENXT North American Champion @WesLee_WWE was less than a week away from holding the title for more combined days than any other Superstar. He’ll have to hope for a second reign if he wants to break that record. For now, the record is still held by @Carmelo_WWE. The good news is that @WesLee_WWE’s run of 269 straight days is the longest single reign with the @WWENXT North American title, so while he didn’t break the cumulative record, he did set the high mark for longest continuous time holding the championship.”
Mysterio will make his first title defense against Mustafa Ali at NXT Great American Bash event on Sunday, July 30, 2023, at the H-E-B Center at Cedar Park in Austin.
