WWE tag team recently won their first match in several months

Two WWE stars recently reunited for their first tag team match in several months to advance their placement in the Dusty Rhodes Classic Tournament.

The show

Tuesday’s episode of NXT featured the NXT Women’s Championship number one contender’s battle royal, NXT Women’s Champion, Lyra Valkyria & Tatum Paxley vs. Lola Vice & Elektra Lopez, and Ridge Holland vs. Joe Coffey.

There were also two Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic quarterfinals with Carmelo Hayes & Trick Williams vs. Malik Blade & Edris Enofe and Duke Hudson & Riley Osborne vs. Cruz Del Toro & Joaquin Wilde.

Going into the bout, Hayes was questionable to compete as on last week’s SmackDown, Hayes worked a match against Austin Theory where a move went wrong, and Theory landed on his head while Hayes also landed awkwardly. Theory is in medical protocol, and his status is up in the air.

The match

Hayes and Williams went over in the tournament match to advance. This marked their first match in 175 days (five months and 22 days) as they last teamed up together on the July 25th episode of NXT, where they teamed with NXT Champion Ilja Dragunov to beat The Schism (Jagger Reid, Joe Gacy & Rip Fowler).

Since then, they’ve gone their separate ways as singles stars. At the February 4th Vengeance Day PLE, Williams will challenge Dragunov for the NXT Title.

Join us at the Fifth Annual 80s Wrestling Con on Saturday, May 4th at the Mennen Sports Arena in Morristown, NJ featuring The Four Horsemen, Jake Roberts, and More! 80sWrestlingCon.com.
