Former WWF star "Outlaw" Ron Bass has passed away at the age of 68. Bass had been hospitalized this week with a burst appendix. Bass may be most remembered for his late 1980's feud with Brutus Beefcake when Bass used his metal spurs to cut open Beefcake's head. To get over how brutal the angle was, the syndicated WWF programming had a big red "X" over the screen to block out the blood. It was a pretty hardcore angle during a time when they were really pushing the product hard to kids. Bass would eventually lose a hair vs. hair match to Beefcake on an episode of Saturday Night's Main Event. He disappeared from the WWF in 1989 and would continue wrestling for many more years but his WWF run was the end of his wrestling days on the national scene.

Bass got his start in the wrestling business in the 1970's in the NWA. Championship Wrestling from Florida fans may remember Bass and Black Bart as the Long Riders.

On behalf of the staff of WrestlingNews.co, we send our condolences to Bass' friends and family.
