Referees in WWE are told to treat matches as if they are a shoot so if a wrestler fails to get his shoulder up while being pinned then he risks losing the match even if he was booked to win.
This week on 205 Live, there was a great match between Chad Gable and Jack Gallagher. At one point, Gallagher was out of the ring and struggling to get back in before being counted out. Unfortunately, he got caught as he was slipping under the ropes before the 10-count and the referee counted him out. Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that this was not the planned finish but due to the directive given out to referees, the match was awarded to Gable as a count out victory.
After the match, you could see the disappointment in Gable’s face and the announcers seem confused as well. The one good thing to come out of this is that we are pretty much guaranteed to see at least one rematch with these guys.
Here is a clip from the botched finish:
Here is the botch from #WWE 205 Live. This was not supposed to be the finish but referees are told to call it like a shoot so Jack Gallagher was counted out. Chad Gable looks very disappointed. It was a great match. I recommend you go back and watch it on the WWE Network. pic.twitter.com/rw9CW3n6AY
