A new report has confirmed that former three-time TNT Champion Wardlow was backstage at a recent AEW television taping, marking his first reported appearance at a show in several months.
Wardlow Backstage At AEW Taping
In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported, “Wardlow was backstage at TV in Cleveland. He’s from the area.” The taping took place on July 25th in Cleveland, Ohio. While his presence could have simply been a visit since he is a local, it has sparked speculation among fans about a potential return to the company.
An Extended Absence For Wardlow
In September, fellow Undisputed Kingdom member Matt Taven revealed that Wardlow, who went on hiatus in late April, had suffered a knee injury. Wardlow’s last match saw him unsuccessfully challenge for then-World Champion champion Samoa Joe at “AEW Dynamite: Big Business,” back in March 2024.
If Wardlow is nearing a return to the company, he would re-enter a TNT Championship picture that has seen significant change in his absence. The title was recently vacated by an injured Adam Cole and won by veteran Dustin Rhodes, who then lost it to Kyle Fletcher of the Don Callis Family just weeks later. The addition of a powerhouse like Wardlow would add another major contender to the chaotic title scene.
