Abyss Has No Plans To Wrestle Again

Chris Park, known to wrestling fans worldwide as the monstrous and hardcore legend Abyss, has officially confirmed that his days as an in-ring competitor are over. The TNA Hall of Famer, who has been a formidable presence in wrestling for two decades, shut the door on a potential return during a recent interview with Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful, citing his happiness in his current backstage role with WWE.

When asked directly about the possibility of wrestling again, Park made his intentions clear. “To answer quite frankly, I’m done. I don’t have plans to ever wrestle again,” he stated. Park has not competed in a match since 2019, having transitioned to a new chapter of his career behind the scenes.

For nearly 17 years, Abyss was a cornerstone of TNA Wrestling, where he crafted a legendary career as “The Monster.” Feared for his brutal, brawling style, Abyss became synonymous with the company’s most violent and iconic match stipulation: the Monster’s Ball. His feuds against fellow legends like Sting, AJ Styles, and Raven are remembered for their intensity and physicality, often involving his signature weapons like steel chairs, barbed wire, and a nail-embedded 2×4 affectionately named “Janice.” His dominance and loyalty to the promotion led to him becoming a Grand Slam Champion, most notably capturing the NWA World Heavyweight Championship in 2006.

Park later introduced the character of Joseph Park, Abyss’s bumbling and kind-hearted lawyer “brother” who was searching for the missing monster. The character became a fan-favorite and showcased a depth beyond his hardcore persona.

After departing TNA, Park joined WWE in 2019, where he has since served in the vital backstage role of a producer. In this position, he works directly with WWE Superstars on shows like Raw and SmackDown, helping them structure and execute their matches for the live television audience. He is part of a team of former wrestlers who now use their years of experience to guide the current generation of talent.

While his days taking bumps are behind him, Park left a small window open for a different kind of on-screen appearance, but reiterated his commitment to his current work. “Never say never, but I don’t see it in the cards, and I don’t want it in the cards. I’m so happy what I’m doing as a producer,” Park said, before noting he would be open to a non-wrestling appearance as his lawyer character, Joseph Park.
