Adam Cole comments on criticism of cliffhanger ending to Iron Man WWE NXT Title match

Adam Cole will have the chance to become the WWE NXT Champion once again as he’ll take on Finn Balor for the vacant NXT Title during tonight’s episode of NXT on the USA Network.

The new champion was supposed to be crowned last week when a Fatal 4-Way Iron Man Match took place in the second hour of the show with Cole, Balor, Tommaso Ciampa, and Johnny Gargano.

Cole and Balor tied with 2 points each, which resulted in William Regal announcing at the end of the show that a Sudden Death Battle between Cole and Balor would take place, but fans would have to wait a week to see it.

Some fans didn’t like the cliffhanger finish to the contest, which is something that Cole spoke about while doing an interview with ComicBook.

Coel stated that he’s the annoying person that looks at everything glass half full always and tries to find the good in everything. He thinks as long term storytelling goes they gave the fans compelling action and a great match that went for an hour.

“As far as a television show goes, it would be the equivalent to a cliffhanger. We give you a cliffhanger on last week’s episode, and then this week you’re going to get the finale. So in that sense, because wrestling at the end of the day is a television show, it makes perfect sense to me.

However, I do understand that some people were upset,” Cole said. “I understand that some people want to see a definitive end to a match like that, and it makes total sense.”

Cole continued by stating that is what he loves about pro wrestling so much as you will have one match with a certain result and some people will think it’s the greatest thing ever while another group of people will be upset about it. He thinks the cool thing about that is neither side is wrong. He loves TV shows more than movies because you can tell a longer story.

“So NXT at the end of the day is a TV show, and we’re just telling the story of the NXT Championship, and the Adam Cole Finn Balor story a little bit longer.”

He would go on to talk about how there has been a constant comparison between him and Balor and who is the greatest NXT Champion of all time.
