The future of Adam Cole in WWE has been a hot topic among fans as of late due to reports that he has yet to sign a new WWE contract. His current deal is slated to expire in September. He also has the option of going to AEW where his long-time girlfriend Dr. Britt Baker is currently wrestling.
The NXT Champion spoke to Brent Brookhouse of CBS Sports to promote his championship Backlot Brawl against The Velveteen Dream that will take place at NXT Takeover: In Your House this Sunday.
The interviewer acknowledged the uncertainty around Cole’s future in WWE but Cole stated that he’s not thinking about what’s next. Instead, he’s looking at his current reign as NXT champion.
“Right now, and I mean this because a lot of people say, ‘Oh, what’s next? What are you going to do next? You’re NXT Champion, what’s your next goal?’ My goal is to keep the NXT championship.”
Cole brought up how he just broke the record of being the NXT Champion for a year and his love for NXT as he’s proud of what the brand represents in addition to the accomplishments that he’s had with the Undisputed Era.
“I see no reason why we have to skip over to the next goal or next thing. I think holding onto the NXT championship for as long as possible and making sure this record can and will never be broken is my end-game goal.”
Cole stated that the growth of NXT has been tremendous and how he thinks about where the brand will be a year or two from now.
“It’s going to keep growing and growing and getting bigger and bigger. I’m very proud to be a part of that. I just want to continue trying to solidify myself as being the greatest NXT champion of all-time.”
Cole also talked about facing Velveteen Dream, wrestling without fans, and more. You can read the full interview here.
