It was reported earlier this month that WWE had some interesting plans for Adam Cole on the main roster if he did decide to re-sign with the promotion.
Dave Meltzer reported that Cole would’ve been the manager of Keith Lee, who would be repackaged as a heel. The dynamic of the duo would’ve been something like what they did with Lio Rush and Bobby Lashley a few years ago with a smaller guy talking for the bigger man.
Meltzer also said that this was not an idea that creative came up with and it was more from Vince McMahon or Bruce Prichard.
Cole was asked about this during an interview with TV Insider.com. According to Cole, he never heard about that.
“I personally have never heard anything regarding that. I touched base a little bit on how my meeting with Vince McMahon went really well. We talked for about 30 minutes. He had a lot of complimentary things to say. As far as hearing that specific thing, that was not something I heard about. My four years with NXT was fantastic. My four years with WWE was awesome, but at the end of the day, I wanted to end up with AEW. Now that I’m here, I’m stoked.”
Cole made his AEW debut at the All Out pay-per-view event and just won his in-ring debut against Frankie Kazarian on Wednesday’s Dynamite.
