The ratings are in for the first week of the Wednesday Night War and AEW Dynamite on TNT easily beat WWE NXT on USA Network.

The new weekly AEW show drew 1.409 million viewers to NXT's 891,000 viewers. The AEW number far exceeds industry expectations and the NXT number is the third week their number has dropped since the show debuted on USA three weeks ago.

AEW doubled its competition in the 18-49 demographic with 878,000 viewers in that demo compared to NXT's 414,000 in that same demo. The 18-49 demographic is most important to advertisers.

Shortly before the ratings were out to the public, WWE sent out the following statement:

"Congratulations to AEW on a successful premiere. The real winners of last night’s head-to-head telecasts of NXT on USA Network and AEW on TNT are the fans, who can expect Wednesday nights to be a competitive and wild ride as this is a marathon, not a one-night sprint."

It was obviously a huge night for wrestling fans and AEW should be very happy with their numbers. The bigger story will be what the numbers are weeks from now when fans are settled in.
