AEW Star Says He Is ‘Stepping It Up’ In Rehab Following Surgery

AEW star Dustin Rhodes has shared a candid update regarding his rehabilitation process as he works toward a return to the ring following major surgery. The veteran wrestler, who has been sidelined since late July, underwent double knee replacement surgery in August and has been documenting his recovery for his fans.

In his latest update shared on social media, Rhodes revealed that the intensity of his physical therapy has increased, resulting in significant physical discomfort. Despite the pain, “The Natural” remains committed to his recovery.

“Rehab update: We stepped it up today and man, sore as shit,” Rhodes wrote on Twitter. “I push really hard and will get back to it when I’m ready. Gotta #KeepSteppin”

The 56-year-old veteran has been out of action since the July 31, 2025, episode of AEW Collision, where he competed in a brutal Chicago Street Fight against Kyle Fletcher. That match served as the write-off for Rhodes, as he dropped the TNT Championship to Fletcher in a violent encounter that saw his knees targeted by the “Protostar.” Rhodes had previously captured the title in a victory at All In Texas earlier in the month.

Following the match, Rhodes confirmed that he would need double knee replacement surgery to fix years of wear and tear. He underwent the procedure on August 21. At the time, he expressed nervousness but also excitement about the prospect of rebuilding his body, comparing himself to the “Six Million Dollar Man.”

He has previously stated that he intends to make “the greatest comeback of anyone in their 50s” and is targeting a return to the ring in early 2026, specifically eyeing late February or early March. With a career spanning over three decades, he has remained a beloved figure and a valuable asset to the AEW roster, both as an in-ring performer and a mentor backstage.

AEW is currently preparing for its final pay-per-view of the year, Worlds End, which takes place on Saturday, December 27, at the Addition Financial Arena in Orlando, Florida. The event will feature the Continental Classic tournament finals and an AEW World Championship match. Additionally, the event will mark the in-ring return of MJF, who recently came back to television to confront the champions.
