WWE Champion AJ Styles recently spoke with Brian Fritz of the Sporting News to promote Sunday’s Royal Rumble pay-per-view. During the interview, he was asked about former NXT Champion Samoa Joe possibly debuting on the main roster soon. He said that Joe is an amazing wrestler and that they’re really good friends. “It’s just a matter of time before he’s on the roster. It wouldn’t surprise me if he showed up on Sunday. There’s always surprises in the Royal Rumble, and you try not to get surprised, you try to see it coming, but that’s what makes the Royal Rumble so fun.” He added that if Joe doesn’t show up on Sunday, then he’ll definitely show up soon.
When asked about his reaction to being positioned in the back of the Royal Rumble poster, Styles said that he thinks more people were upset about it than he was. He noted that he gets what is going on with the poster as the veterans are placed in the front of it. He understands that they have been around for a long time and that people recognized that. He noted that he is not happy about it because he thinks the WWE Champion should be near the front of the poster but at the same time, he understands the reasoning for the poster.
