WWE Raw Tag Team Champion “The Phenomenal One” AJ Styles was interviewed this week on Corey Graves’ “After The Bell” podcast.
Here’s a couple of transcribed highlights from the interview:
Styles was asked if there was a point in his career where he felt complacent where he felt he has to kick out of this or change something up:
“There’s always going to be that negative thought in your head about, ‘Well, I’m not in the heavyweight picture, or I’m not really doing anything.’ You just have to find a way to make it fun. A lot of people say, ‘We want to see AJ in the heavyweight title picture.’ I’m having fun with the tag team picture right now, and I found a way to make it fun like little things like Bobby Lashley and his women that he had out there. Let’s interact with them. Let’s make it funny. Let’s make it entertaining. That’s what we do, and I had to pull Omos away from the ladies. There’s little things like that I think we need to make entertaining, and I’m going to find a way to do all of that.”
AJ talking about Samoa Joe:
“There’s so many things about Joe that are great. This guy always finds a way to do what he does best. In my personal opinion, he’s one of the best wrestlers I’ve ever seen. So many guys say, ‘That Samoa Joe is so dangerous.’ You have no idea how awesome he is. If you only knew how great he was with his kicks and punches and everything he does, it’s just brilliant. Then he goes and commentates and he’s one of the best there too. I’m like, ‘You gotta be kidding me. He’s always so good at everything he does. I have no doubt he’ll be the best wherever he goes and whatever he does. This is the guy who I feel like I’m looking in the mirror when I talk to Joe. Him and I have been best friends forever, so nobody better to mentor than Samoa Joe.”
