It’s a great time to be a professional wrestler, especially if you are going to be a free agent this year.
On today’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez briefly mentioned the raise that Jerry “The King” Lawler got for his new 2-year deal with WWE. Meltzer noted how it’s a great time to be a wrestler right now because there are places to go and he mentioned AJ Styles, whose contract is set to expire in April.
“AJ Styles doesn’t have a new contract,” Meltzer said, “What timing this guy’s got.”
“He’s gonna have a contract soon for sure. What a great time for your contract to expire, especially for AJ Styles. Good for him, he’s worked his ass off for 20 years to be in this position.”
As we’ve written about before, All Elite Wrestling is going to spend a lot of money to get big names and there are some in WWE looking at their options when their deals expire. We don’t know what Styles will do but it’s safe to say that he would at least consider a contract offer from AEW, especially because the people in that company are his friends and they are likely to offer a schedule that is lighter than his current one.
