Last night’s episode of SmackDown Live ended with a huge surprise. Daniel Bryan defeated AJ Styles to win the WWE Title in the main event of the show. The match was set-up earlier in the opening segment after Paul Heyman interrupted AJ Styles’ promo. Styles was prepared to face Brock Lesnar at this weekend’s Survivor Series pay-per-view due to the show’s Champion vs. Champion format.
However, with Bryan’s WWE Title win, Lesnar will now be matched up with Bryan on Sunday. Bryan won the WWE Title by hitting Styles with a low blow after the referee was knocked down. He then hit a flying knee for the three count and WWE Title win. After the match, Bryan turned heel by attacking Styles.
Following the show, Styles was supposed to team up with Charlotte Flair for the Mixed Match Challenge on Facebook Watch. However, instead, Jeff Hardy came out to partner with Flair instead. It’s unclear why Styles didn’t work the Mixed Match Challenge match, but it’s likely storyline related.
