AJ Styles is a fighting champion, but the same thing can’t be said about Brock Lesnar.
While “The Phenomenal One” defends his WWE Title on a regular basis as a member of the SmackDown Live roster, “The Beast” is lucky to get in a Universal Title defense once every several months. Right now Lesnar is scheduled to defend his title at SummerSlam next month against Roman Reigns (again).
Styles will fight former TNA rival Samoa Joe for his WWE Title at the event as well. WWE fans have taken issue with Lesnar’s part-time status and are eager to once again have a full-time Universal Champion. Recently, Noelle Foley interviewed AJ Styles for Ringside Collectibles at the San Diego Comic-Con.
Foley asked Styles for his thoughts on Lesnar’s part-time status. The WWE Champion’s response to the matter is simple – the fault lies with WWE:
“Well, you know what? I don’t care what anybody says. Brock Lesnar is what we call ‘a draw.’ People come see Brock Lesnar and the fact he’s not wrestled that’s on WWE. That’s on Kurt Angle and anybody else that has anything to do with it. I do what I do.
“I’m a fighting champion like you said. I’m going to defend my championship. I’m going to give my championship the respect that it deserves. So I can’t say much about Brock Lesnar. All I can do is keep doing what I’m doing.”
