AJ Styles on winning the WWE Title at Backlash, wrestling John Cena, his future in WWE

WWE World Heavyweight Champion AJ Styles appeared on ESPN’s SportsCenter on Wednesday to talk to Jonathan Coachman about WWE. There was a highlight video package of Monday’s RAW and Tuesday’s SmackDown Live shown.

Coachman asked him about winning the WWE Title. Styles said he has won other titles but this one has excluded him until now. He said that he is the face that runs this place and that he won the title all by himself. Styles added that winners find a way to get it done and that’s what he does.

When asked about the reaction to his title win from the locker room, Styles said that they praised him. Styles added that he had an amazing match with Dean Ambrose at Sunday’s Backlash PPV.

On where winning the WWE Title ranks for him in his career, Styles said that it ranks the highest because this is the title that you want to hold during your career. Styles explained that WWE is a global company, not just a wrestling company.

When asked about his match with John Cena at SummerSlam last month, Styles explained that he knew his match with Cena was going to be something special before he got into the ring with him. Styles called the match a classic and gave Cena props for delivering in the match.

Coachman asked him if he had any doubts in himself, Styles said that he has confidence in himself and that he belongs at the top of the card alongside Roman Reigns, Cena, and others. Styles said that when he steps into the ring any doubt in his mind goes away.

When asked who he thinks is the best WWE Champion of all-time is, Styles said that it’s hard to say. Styles listed Shawn Michaels, Cena, and Ric Flair as great champions. Styles believes he has to put his stamp on his reign as champion before comparing himself to previous champions. Finally, Coachman asked him about his future in WWE, Styles said that he would get anything he wants because winners get anything that they want.
