AJ Styles appeared on the latest edition of Talk is Jericho to talk about joining WWE and more. Here is an excerpt from the interview in which Styles talks about his meeting with Vince McMahon and his character.
“Him and I did sit down and talk and we talked about this character. I know this character who he’s talking about because I was [a] heel. This guy whose had to fight for everything.”
“The character that he explained to me is very close, very similar to [the guy I am]. He brought it up ‘this is the way you need to be. You’re not the tallest guy, you’re not the biggest guy, but you’re a pit bull.’ I know that guy, I could be that guy.”
Styles also said that he found out that he would be in the Royal Rumble match the week of the event.
Styles briefly talked about Karl Anderson and Doc Gallows joining WWE. Styles praised Anderson for the worker he is and how it was a tough decision for Anderson to leave NJPW after being there for eight years. Styles said that Gallows will be fine in WWE because they already know him and that it was just time for them to leave NJPW to return to the states and be in WWE.
