WWE announced on Friday morning that they have mutually come to terms with Alberto Del Rio on his release from the company.
Del Rio returned to the company last October at the Hell in a Cell PPV and worked a short program with John Cena. Since then, he was quickly moved down the card and hasn’t been featured in prominent matches on TV or PPVs. Before his release, Del Rio was serving 30-day suspension for violating WWE’s wellness policy.
WWE issued the following statement:
WWE and Jose Rodriguez (Alberto Del Rio) have mutually agreed upon the terms of his release as of today, September 9, 2016.
Del Rio will be holding a press conference in Mexico City, Mexico on Friday. With Del Rio no longer under contract with WWE, it’s possible that he is going to announce a deal with AAA.
Del Rio issued the following statement on his Twitter account:
“My business relationship with @WWE has come to an end in good terms…thanks for the opportunities they gave me.
Termine mi relación con WWE.”
